The 'Global Industry Classification Standard' (GICS) is used as a basis for certain
Morgan Stanley financial market indexes. It was developed by
Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI), a provider of global financial indices, products and services, and
Standard & Poor's (S&P), a provider of global equity indices, financial data and investment services. The GICS structure consists of 10 sectors, 24 industry groups, 67 industries and 147 sub-industries. The system is similar to ICB (
Industry Classification Benchmark), a classification structure maintained by Dow Jones Indexes and FTSE Group.
