GOING UNDER

"'Going Under'" was the second single from rock band Evanescence's first commercial album, ''Fallen''. It was originally planned to be the first single, but the success from "Bring Me to Life" eclipsed the initial decision.
The music can be heard in the credits of the video game ''Enter the Matrix''. The music features in the movie ''Tristan & Isolde'' (2006), and is played in the trailer. It was also used for promotion of the television series ''Angel''.
While the only studio version of "Going Under" to be released appeared on ''Fallen'', a demo version was made with minor — yet noticeable — differences which set it apart, including the way Lee's voice is mixed and the sound of the instruments.

Story behind the song

The song is about Amy Lee's relationship with an abusive boyfriend, but it can be used to describe any type of abusive relationship. Lee said the song is about emerging from a "bad" relationship, explaining "And when you're at the end of your rope, when you're at the point where you realize something has to change, that you can't go on living in the situation that you're in. It's cool. It's a very strong song."D'Angelo, Joe. "Evanescence Singer Pairs Metal Chains, Fairies For Upcoming Video". MTV News. June 4 2003. Retrieved February 12 2007.

The video for "Going Under" was directed by Philip Stolzl and filmed in Berlin in mid-May 2003. Lee designed her own costumes in the video when she was recovering from illness in a Los Angeles hotel, the original filming location of the video. The video features the band at a gig in a place full of zombies. Normal people attending the gig transform into said zombies throughout the course of the video. Lee stated that the zombies symbolize the media trying to get a piece of them, the queries about their religion and such. There are also segments featuring Lee singing in a pool of water, apparently (as the lyrics state) "drowning in you".
Lee designed the corset she wore in the video, which cost $2500.[1]
