'Gordon Chisholm' (born April 8 1960 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a former professional footballer and is currently the manager of Scottish First Division club Queen of the South.
His son is Hibernian midfielder Ross Chisholm
Chisholm started his career at Sunderland where he spent seven years under the late Bob Stokoe. He was a member of the Sunderland side that reached the final of the English League Cup in March 1985, where they lost 1-0 to Norwich City. Unfortunately for Chisholm, he deflected Asa Hartford's shot into the net for Norwich's winning goal. He moved back to Scotland in 1985 when he joined Hibernian. He later had spells at Dundee and Partick Thistle.
He had assistant manager roles at Partick Thistle, Clydebank, Ross County, Airdrieonians, Falkirk and Dundee United before being appointed as caretaker manager of United on March 14 2005, following the sacking of Ian McCall.
Chisholm suffered 3-2 defeats against both Celtic and Hibernian in his first two matches in charge in March 2005. However in his first full month in charge in April 2005, Chisholm was to be awarded the SPL Manager of the Month award. This followed a week where Chisholm's team triumphed over Hibs, Rangers and Hearts. Chisholm then went on to end the Tannadice sides hoodoo against neighbours Dundee (United hadn't won for 8 games in a row against their neighbours, stretching back over 3 years) at the first attempt, with Mark Wilson and Jim McIntyre goals sealing a 2-1 win. Chishom then kept United up in dramatic style with a late Barry Robson penalty at Inverness on the final day of the season sealing the clubs future in the SPL.
After taking United to the Scottish Cup final and subsequently into the UEFA Cup, he was given the position on a permanent basis on May 24 2005. However, despite spending considerable money on players such as Lee Miller, United were to be eliminated at the qualifying stage of the UEFA Cup by Finnish outfit MyPa. Subsequent poor league form and a 3-2 defeat against Aberdeen in the Third Round of the Scottish Cup, after having led 2-0, led to Chisholm being sacked on 10 January 2006 by Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson. He became Ian McCall's assistant at Queen of the South until McCall left the club at the end of the 2006/07 season.
In the close season, Gordon Chisholm accepted the role as manager at Queen of the South.
