GOTHENBURG MUNICIPALITY
'Gothenburg Municipality' (''Göteborgs kommun'') is the second most populous of the 290 Municipalities of Sweden and forms part of Västra Götaland County in western Sweden.
The major part of Gothenburg urban area (''Göteborgs tätort'') is situated within the municipality, but there are also some other localities as well as rural areas.
The municipality styles itself ''Göteborgs stad'' (''City of Gothenburg'').
The municipality has a Municipal council (''kommunfullmäktige''), consisting of 81 members, elected for four years. There are eight political parties represented in the council elected in 2006:

The municipal executive board (''kommunstyrelsen'') has 13 members, representing the six larger parties in the council.
