2. Orland Steen Loomis won the 1942 election; however, he died before taking office. Per a ruling by the state supreme court, Lieutenant Governor Walter Samuel Goodland acted as governor for the term, and was later elected in his own right.
3. Resigned to be Ambassador to Mexico.
4. Resigned to be United States Secretary of Health and Human Services.
5. Governor Doyle's term expires in 2011; he is not term limited.
