GRAYSLAKE GELATIN FACTORY
The 'Grayslake Gelatin Factory' is a defunct gelatin factory located in Grayslake, Illinois. It is locally known for its 80 foot tall smoke stack that still rises over the town, which has earned the nick-name "Grayslake's version of the Hollywood Sign".
The factory opened in the 1920s as a milk factory. It was built alongside railroad tracks so deliveries could be made quickly. In the 1950s it became a gelatin factory, and closed in the mid-80s. It is currently unknown what happens today inside the building, however Grayslake Gelatin still has an active office on the property.
