GREATER HARTFORD ACADEMY OF MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE
The 'Greater Hartford Academy of Mathematics and Science' or 'GHAMAS' is a regional high school located at The Learning Corridor in Hartford, Connecticut. It is run by the Capital Region Education Council (CREC), one of 6 Regional Educational Service Centers (RESC) in Connecticut.
GHAMAS is a state-of-the-art educational facility. It provides a well-designed environment conducive to collaboration and teamwork, and an emphasis on achieving success at the student's pace. Labs at the Academy include the Robotics Lab, Physics Lab, Earth Science Lab, Photonics Lab, Biology Lab, Cell Culture Lab, Greenhouse & Potting Lab, Biochemistry Lab, Chemistry Lab, Special Instrumentation Lab, and Computer Science Lab. There are also several student laboratories, used by students to conduct research. GHAMAS currently runs a Biodiesel Project under a grant from Toshiba Corporation, in which its students are being given an opportunity to do real research in creating biodiesel from algae.
GHAMAS is a member of the NCSSSMST. This is an organization of secondary schools that promote Mathematics, Science, and Technology schools. The new interim director for the remainder of the year is Jerry Struzik who hopes he can leave his mark on the school.
