GREENWOOD, ARKANSAS
'Greenwood' is a city in Sebastian County, Arkansas, in the United States. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 7,112.

Geography
Greenwood is located at (35.215534, -94.253351).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 24.1 km² (9.3 mi²). 23.8 km² (9.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (1.39%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 7,112 people, 2,508 households, and 2,008 families residing in the city. The population density was 298.8/km² (774.1/mi²). There were 2,654 housing units at an average density of 111.5/km² (288.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.13% White, 0.24% Black or African American, 1.53% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.18% from other races, and 1.48% from two or more races. 1.55% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,508 households out of which 49.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.7% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.9% were non-families. 17.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the city the population was spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 33.4% from 25 to 44, 16.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.0 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,230, and the median income for a family was $41,278. Males had a median income of $31,649 versus $21,564 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,254. About 5.1% of families and 6.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.3% of those under age 18 and 5.6% of those age 65 or over.
City Government
The city of Greenwood is governed by a Mayor-Council form of government. The Mayor, Ken Edwards Jr. (elected in a run-off election in November 2006), and six elected alderman make up the Greenwood City Council. The city clerk, Wilma Cabe and the City Attorney, Mike Hamby also sit with the council during city business. Greenwood also has a full time Police Department, led by Police Chief Keith Jackson who has a staff of 19 full time officers. Greenwood residents passed a 3/4 cent sales tax during the 2006 general election to fund a full time Fire Department as well as a full time Parks and Recreation Department. The city has a staff of 52 full time employees and an annual operating budget of just over 12 million dollars.

★ Daniel Stegall - "Professional Baseball Player" Born Daniel Mackenzie Stegall September 24, 1987 was the first athlete from Greenwood High School to sign a National Letter of Intent to play at a Division 1 school. Stegall signed a letter of intent to play Quarter Back for the University of Miami but was drafted by the New York Mets out of high school and is currently playing for the Savannah Sand Gnats, Class A in the South Atlantic Minor League.
