GUHAGAR

'Guhagar' is a census town in Ratnagiri district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The town is known for its virgin beach, coir items, coconuts, and betel nuts. The nearest city and railhead is Chiplun, about away. The economy of Guhagar boomed after the Dabhol Power Project, a few kilometres north was commissioned in the early 1990s. Hotels sprung up and residents were given well-paid jobs. After the collapse of the project in the late 1990s, most of the townfolk were rendered jobless.
