Readers have often expressed their appreciation of ''Guitar Player's'' policy of featuring many styles of guitarists, as opposed to other magazines, typically dominated by rock music. It has been published since 1967, and so will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2007 — an event that will be reflected in the contents of that year’s issues.

In May of 2006 the Music Player Network partnered with TrueFire TV to launch an internet-based television station for guitarists. It provides content similar to that of the magazine such as interviews and lessons. Guitar Player TV is provided at no cost to the user due to advertising and sponsorship.[1]
