H MART

'Han Ah Reum' (Korean: 한아름, Hanja: 韓亞龍)—which also markets itself as 'H Mart' and 'Super H Mart' —is a Korean supermarket chain with several locations in the United States and Canada. It is knows more commonly to area natives as "The local Han Ah Rah Han" or "The Korean Supermarket." It specializes in imported Korean and Asian food and household goods, as well as a selection of Western products. Some locations feature video rental stations, from which members can rent videos or DVDs of Korean mini-series, television shows and movies as well as non-Korean entertainment dubbed or subtitled in Korean.
The first Han Ah Reum opened as a small corner grocery in Woodside, Queens, New York in September of 1982. HAR Grand Corporation is now headquartered in Maspeth, New York and operates stores in British Columbia, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Washington, and Illinois.
The Han Ah Reum in Flushing, New York is known globally for their extremely well devised parking management system. This system made headlines for its simplicity and efficiency. It involves an elderly Korean gentleman patrolling the lot on the prowl for lot violators. When a violation is caught in progress, whether it be a pedestrian or a vehicle driver, the attendant blows a whistle to indicate the violation to the offender. The violator is expected to act immediately to prevent further whistle blowing.
