HANCOCK MUSEUM
The 'Hancock Museum' is a museum of natural history in Newcastle upon Tyne. It is located next to the Great North Road, on the campus of Newcastle University. It is named after John Hancock, a local naturalist. The museum and all of its collections are owned by the Natural History Society of Northumbria but is now managed by the Tyne and Wear Museums network.
As of 23 April 2006, the museum has been closed and will not reopen till 2009. It is being modernised and will become less focussed on natural history, with displays of Egyptian and Greek objects previously found at Newcastle's Museum of Antiquities.
