HAR MAR MALL

'Har Mar Mall' is a regional, enclosed shopping mall located in Roseville, Minnesota, a suburb of Saint Paul. Har Mar Mall features over 60 stores; unlike nearby Rosedale Center, Har Mar is more discount-oriented, featuring many big box stores. The mall was owned by Centro Watt until Feb 2007 when it was sold to Emmes & Company.

History

The mall was built in 1961, deriving its name from its owners, 'Har'old and 'Mar'ie Slawik. Twin Cities architect Willard Thorson, who also designed Apache Plaza in nearby St. Anthony, designed the mall. In 1971, the mall was expanded. The mall got another renovation after being heavily damaged in a tornado on 14 June, 1981[1]. Until the mid-1990s, Har Mar was in serious decline, losing stores and foot traffic. However, it has since become viable once more, gaining new tenants such as Barnes & Noble, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Dress Barn. The mall's two movie theater complexes closed in late 2006, as new theaters opened up at Rosedale Center.
