History
Built after World War II, Harcourt Road was once a waterfront promenade and to ease congestion on Hong Kong Island. With Gloucester Road and Connaught Road Central, this part of the major highway running through Hong Kong will be replaced as a major thoroughfare by a new road to be constructed as a part of the Victoria Harbour reclamation phase 3.
The road was built on the former Admiralty Dock in Central. After the reclamation of the dock, the road was built and named after H. J. Harcourt of the British Navy who received Hong Kong from Japan after World War II.
