HAULAGE
'Haulage', also called 'cartage' or 'drayage', is the horizontal transport of ore, coal, supplies, and waste. The vertical transport of the same with cranes is called 'hoisting'.
'Haulage cost' is the cost of loading raw ore at a mine site and transporting it to a processing plant.
Haulage also refers to the charges made for hauling freight on carts, drays or trucks.
'Haulage rights' is the arrangement where one railroad, supplying cars, may negotiate rates with customers located on another railroad's line, the road granting haulage rights. This differs from trackage rights in that the host railroad operates the trains for the other railroad, where with trackage rights, the secondary railroad operates trains over the host's track.
Haulage is also the business of transporting goods.
