HAVEN (ARTEMIS FOWL)
'Haven City' is a fictitious fairy metropolis located several hundred miles underground in the Artemis Fowl series and the capital of the Lower Elements.
It, along with Atlantis is one of the only places that a large number of fairies can live in. The only humans known to have been to Haven are Artemis Fowl and his servant, Butler. Haven is powered by eco-friendly means, and as artificial sunstrips located on its ceiling to give the illusion of day and night. It's highways move vehicles along predetermined paths, like rails.
It was named Haven because it is one of the last "''havens''" for fairies. The centaur Foaly monitors its security systems, which include several means of detecting any human activity near Haven. He put the city into lockdown mode and shut down almost all power after detecting human activity in the third book, . Haven is reached from the surface by means of large, metallic eggs which ride on magma chutes.
