HAYDEN (MUSICIAN)

'Paul Hayden Desser', who records as 'Hayden', is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Born in 1971,[1] his father is Sherwin S. Desser, a retired University of Toronto professor of parasitology and current visual artist.
Hayden received post-secondary education at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute (now Ryerson University) in Toronto and received a B.A.A. (Bachelor of Applied Arts) degree in Radio and Television Arts in 1993.
His early works are a largely eclectic mix of genres from grunge rock to alt country, as demonstrated by his first full album, ''Everything I Long For'', released in 1995. Since then his work has become progressively quieter and more mature. His latest release, 2004's ''Elk Lake Serenade'', is almost exclusively slow, acoustic, and more refined.
In 1996 Hayden performed both nights of Neil Young's annual Bridge School Concert.
In 1998, Hayden toured North America with a full band in support of ''The Closer I Get''.
After the release of ''The Closer I Get'', Hayden was inadvertently bought out from his contract with Universal Records. The details are not apparent. With no label support and with a supposed large sum of money he received for leaving his contract with Universal, Hayden released 500 copies of ''Skyscraper National Park'' independently. Hayden wrote the liner notes for these limited-edition copies by hand. As awareness about the record quickly spread, Hayden made a commercial release of the album in 2001, this time, of course, without hand-written liner notes.
In 2005, Hayden release his long awaited follow up album, ''Elk Lake Serenade'' and toured Canada with Oshawa's Cuff the Duke acting as back up band.
In 2006 Hayden contributed a t-shirt design to the Yellow Bird Project to raise money for the Acoustic Neuroma Association of Canada.
In Canada, each of Desser's albums have been issued by Hardwood Records, a small music label he owns. Other than Desser, Canadian indie band Cuff the Duke is the only other group currently signed to Hardwood.
On 23 February 2006, Hardwood Records confirmed that Desser was writing and recording a new album, and hoped to release it before 2007.[2] On 27 October 2006, the record label confirmed that the album was still in the recording stage.[3] As of early January 2007, reports indicate that recording will not be finished for several months. No specific date has been given.[4]
