HEATHERDALE RAILWAY STATION, MELBOURNE


'Heatherdale' is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Mitcham, on the Lilydale and Belgrave railway lines. It is in Metcard Zone 2.
Heatherdale is classed as a Host Station.

Location


The station is located at the western end of the Heatherdale Road level crossing.

Facilities


The station consists of two side platforms. Platform 1 contains a customer service office, a stainless steel seating area and toilet facilities, all under the cover of a steel framed glass roof. Platform 2 contains a stainless steel seating area under a similar steel and glass roof. A large Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 1, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 2.
Both platforms can be accessed via Heatherdale Road.

History


Heatherdale station originally opened on Sunday, 7th September 1958.

Station Redevelopment


As part of the EastLink tollway project, Heatherdale station along with three others along the freeway is being upgraded. The works are being funded by ConnectEast.
Upgrades to Heatherdale Station will include extra parking spaces, upgraded lighting and security measures, a new pedestrian crossing at Heatherdale Road and construction of new station buildings. The original station buildings have now been demolished and the new buildings are now complete. New lighting and signage has also been installed along the platform.
