HELEN CRESSWELL

'Helen Cresswell' (11 July 1934, Nottingham - 26 September 2005, Eakring, Nottinghamshire) was an English author of over 120 books for children including ''A Gift from Winklesea'', the ''Lizzie Dripping'' series, and ''The Bagthorpe Saga''. She also adapted numerous stories for television, including ''Moondial'' (1988), ''Five Children and It'' (1991) and ''The Demon Headmaster'' (1996-1998). She held a degree from King's College London.
In 2005 Cresswell died at her home in Eakring, Nottinghamshire, aged 71 from ovarian cancer.
