HERMAGOR-PRESSEGGER SEE
'Hermagor-Pressegger See' (Slovenian: ''Šmohor-Preseško jezero'') is a city in the Hermagor district in Carinthia. As of 2001 it has a population of 7,232.
Hermagor is located in the Gailtal Valley near the Carnic Alps in Austria, not far from Italy. It covers an area of 204.84 km². Not far from here is the actual Pressegger See, one of the warmest in Austria.
This city was populated before Roman times and was first mentioned in a 1169 document. It obtained market town status in 1288 and obtained city rights in 1930. It was here that Wulfenia carinthiaca was discovered by Franz Xaver von Wulfen in 1779.
Most of the economy is tourism, especially skiing in the winter months. Historically, iron ore was found here.
