HERMAN BOONE
'Herman Boone' (born October 28, 1935) was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He is best known as a former football coach at T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia.
Boone graduated from Booker T. Washington High School (later re-named Rocky Mount Senior High School after the original Booker T. Washington High School was discontinued after integration.) in 1954 and attended North Carolina Central University. He coached high school football in Virginia and North Carolina and was subject to controversy when he accepted the head coaching job at T. C. Williams High School. The school had recently taken part in court-ordered integration and the coach at the time lost his job to Boone. The incident and the integration of the football team are the subject of the film ''Remember the Titans''.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which is a game between high school All-American seniors from the East and West side of the country, has its MVP award named after him. Boone is half Eastern Cherokee, and has participated in coaching a Native American version of the game. His mother was born on a reservation in North Carolina. He currently lives with his wife Carol in Alexandria, Virginia. They have three daughters, Sharron, Donna & Monica. They also have three grandchildren Mackenzie, Myles and Lauren.
Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. Became a member through the Tau Psi chapter of North Carolina Central University.
