HICKORY HIGH SCHOOL (VIRGINIA)


'Hickory High School' (Hickory, Virginia) is a high school in Chesapeake, Virginia. There are approximately 2,600 students. The school's mascot is a hawk and the school colors are teal, grey, white, and black.
Due to the overwhelming amount of students, a new school, Grassfield High, is being built nearby.
Hickory High School was attended by MLB All-Star David Wright.
The school's band program is one of the top bands in the state. It has been selected a Virginia State Honor's Band 8 years straight(Honors Band- The school's marching and top concert band must receive grade 1 a.k.a superior in state festivals). The band program is under the direction of conductor David Enloe. The marching band has won top awards at competitions held at venues like Giant Stadium in New York and Raven Stadium in Maryland.
In early December of 2006, an outbreak of whooping cough in the school made it to local news. Each student was given a letter to inform their parents. The infected student came into contact with many of his/her peers within the period of being infected, these students were given an additional letter in which they were to give to their parents. [1]
