HIGHLAND HIGH SCHOOL (HIGHLAND, INDIANA)

'Highland High School' is the only public high school serving the town of Highland, Indiana, in the Chicago metropolitan area. It is located at 9135 Erie Street. It is also connected to Highland Middle School. The school's mascot is a Trojan warrior.

Highland High School

Highland High School was established in 1960. During the time the school was established, there were about 280 students graduating in each class. That has changed; only about 196 students graduated in the class of 2006.

Rivals

Highland's main arch rival is Munster (Mustangs) because they are a predominantly a richer town compared to Highland. Munster is the town to the west of Highland. Munster has beaten Highland in every sport this school year, except for girls' basketball. The Highland Lady Trojan basketball team went 20-6 including the last LAC Black title and the class 4A E.C. Sectional title ('06-'07). Munster is usually poor sports about losing, too. Andrean (59er's) is also another huge rivalry in Highland because they are a private, Catholic school, and Highland can't figure out why they would put them in the LAC Black conference when it's obvious that students go there for athletics (which is stirctly against IHSAA rules). This really stacks them, and yet Highland still beats them. They are also very poor sports when it comes to losing.

Student Body

Highland's students are into the boys basketball team. Last season (05-06) every game was sold out and the student section was crazy. People were dressed in costumes and painted and everything. On December 6, 2005, the Trojans defeated the West Side Cogars at Highland. The students rushed the court because West Side was ranked in the top 10 in state at the time. During that game, West Side coach John Boyd said the student were making racial comments to his team (since Highland is a mainly white school and West Side is mainly a black school). West Side said that they had an adminestratior in the Highland student section, and she said, "I heard n----r so many times, I thought i was white." The main reason was because there was one student in a gorilla costume. The West Side coach thought that was racist, but that student wore it to every game that season. In the end, nothing happened and the Trojans were defeated by E.C. Central in the second round of sectionals. Highland is know for having one of the craziest student sections in all of northwest Indiana.

Notable Alumni

Many people think that Mike Judge, creator of Office Space and Beavis and Butthead, graduated from HHS and that the principal in B&B is based on Renner Ventling, but it's not true. If you don't believe me, do a little research on Mike Judge
