HILLCREST HIGH SCHOOL (DALLAS)


'Hillcrest High School', formerly 'Vickery Meadows High School' is a public secondary school located in north Dallas, Texas (USA). Hillcrest High School enrolls students in grades 9-12 and is a part of the Dallas Independent School District.
Several communities, such as Vickery Meadows, Preston Hollow, and the West University Place townhome community [1], are zoned to Hillcrest.

The school opened in 1938 as Vickery Meadows High School, but was renamed in the early 1950s when the campus was expanded and nearby communities were annexed to the school district.

Statistics


The attendance rate for students at the school is 91%, compared with a state average of 96%. 52% of the students at Hillcrest are economically disadvantaged, 10% enroll in special education, 9% enroll in gifted and talent programs, and 34% are considered "limited english proficient."[7]
The ethnic makeup of the school is 52% Hispanic American, 30% African American, 17% White American, non-Hispanic, 1% Asian American/Pacific Islander American, and less than 1% American Indian/Alaskan Native.
The average class sizes at Hillcrest are 21 students for English, 20 for foreign language, 18 for math, 20 for science, and 24 for social studies.
Teachers at the school carry, on average, 12 years of teaching experience and 10% of the teachers on staff are first-year teachers.

Feeder patterns


2007-2008

Continuing through the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, Benjamin Franklin Middle School will feed into Hillcrest. The school will also enroll students from Emmett Conrad High School for their senior year, but only those in the areas zoned to L. L. Hotchkiss, Jack Lowe Sr., Lee A. McShan Jr. and Jill Stone Elementary Schools.[10]
Arthur Kramer, John J. Pershing, Preston Hollow, Dan D. Rogers, and Sudie L. Williams Elementary Schools and the K. B. Polk Center for Academically Talented and Gifted will all feed into Franklin Middle School, and ultimately into Hillcrest.
2006-2007

Through the end of the 2006-2007 school year, Benjamin Franklin Middle School fed into Hillcrest.[11]
