HILLSBORO, KANSAS
'Hillsboro' is a city in Marion County, Kansas, United States. The population was 2,854 at the 2000 census. It is home to Tabor College.
The Hillsboro area was settled by Russian Mennonites beginning in 1874. These settlers brought with them a specific variety of winter wheat that is still grown today. Today, the Mennonite Settlement Museum remains to demonstrate the lives of these early settlers.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 km² (2.0 mi²), all land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,854 people, 1,086 households, and 710 families residing in the city. The population density was 553.7/km² (1,435.8/mi²). There were 1,209 housing units at an average density of 234.6/km² (608.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.48% White, 0.35% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.56% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.51% of the population.
There were 1,086 households out of which 27.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.1% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 32.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.85.
In the city the population was spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 17.3% from 18 to 24, 21.9% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 23.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,736, and the median income for a family was $42,465. Males had a median income of $31,188 versus $20,134 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,544. About 5.5% of families and 9.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.1% of those under age 18 and 6.8% of those age 65 or over.
The Hillsboro High school system is part of USD 410 school district. It is a 3A school.
★ The Hillsboro High School Trojan football team made state in 2006 and played until the Semi-Finals, where they lost to the Garden Plain Owls. It was the first time they got to the Semi-Finals since 1986.
★ The Hillsboro High School Girls Basketball team won the 3A Kansas State Basketball tournament in for the first time since 1996. The game was played in Hutchinson.
