The 'Austrian Open' is a men's professional golf tournament on the European Tour. Its sponsored name for 2006 is the 'BA-CA Golf Open Presented by Telekom Austria'. It was first played in 1990 as the Austrian Open and was a European Tour event for seven straight years up to 1996 under a variety of names. It then dropped down to the Challenge Tour schedule from 1997 to 2005, with a sharp reduction in prize money. In 2006 it returned to the main tour. The 2007 prize fund is €1.3 million, which is below average for a European Tour event. The tournament is currently played the week before the U.S. Open.
