As of the census of 2000, there were 181 people, 72 households, and 57 families residing in Homestead. The population density was 367.8/km² (954.5/mi²). There were 76 housing units at an average density of 154.4/km² (400.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.13% White, 2.21% African American, and 1.66% from two or more races.
There were 72 households out of which 30.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.3% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.8% were non-families. 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.84.
The population was spread out with 22.1% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 110.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.3 males.
The median income for a household in the community was $36,250, and the median income for a family was $37,321. Males had a median income of $29,375 versus $19,286 for females. The per capita income for the village was $14,324. About 10.2% of families and 8.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.1% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.
