HOPKINS JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
'Hopkins Junior High School' is a secondary school in Fremont, California. It is one of five junior high schools in the city belonging to the Fremont Unified School District. Hopkins is part of the Mission Attendance area and goes to Mission San Jose High School. Graduates from Chadbourne Elementary School, Gomes Elementary School, Mission San Jose Elementary School, and Mission Valley Elementary School attend Hopkins Junior High. The school has the highest API score of all public junior high schools in California for the year of 2005, and the second highest in 2006.[1].
Several teachers at Hopkins are Paul Ricks, Greg Conway, Tammy Woolbright, Wendy Peterson, Jamil Elkhouri, Yvonne Alexander, Ed Quirley, Nancy DeRose, Candy Lindskog, and Greg Sutton.
Hopkins has recently started playing music on Fridays, in which students get to choose songs to play during lunch. It has been noted that they are following Horner Junior High School, which has a similar Friday event. Every other Friday, Hopkins also has Spirit Days.
The Hopkins Music Department continues to be one of the strongest in the State of California. The bands and jazz bands have received continuous high ratings at festivals going back to 1985. The bands have received 1st Place awards at the Music in the Parks Festival in Anaheim, California 6 of the last 7 years. The new string orchestra program has also received high ratings, with both the Intermediate and Advanced Orchestras receiving "Superior" ratings at the California Music Educators Association Orchestra Festival in May 2007. The Advanced Orchestra received a rating of 99 out of 100 at this festival, the highest of any group performing (junior high and high school).
Several students at Hopkins have also created a forum, Hopkins Forum, where students are able to talk about various topics, such as the school academic subjects, gossip, and teacher discussion. Due to the increasing amount of fake users being created on this forum, it has recently restricted registration to an "Invite Only" status. This forum is not affiliated with the Hopkins Junior High staff in any way, shape, or form.
Students should be aware that multiple thefts have taken place recently within the school's campus. Everything from small amounts of money to one of the teacher's computer monitors have been stolen. It is unknown whether the two have anything to do with each other, but for the time being, it's best for students to refrain from bringing large amounts of money to school.
