HOUKO KUWASHIMA

is a seiyū and singer born December 12, 1975 in Kanegasaki, Isawa, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. She is capable of playing a variety of roles, ranging from young boys to feminine women. Kuwashima is currently affiliated with Aoni Production. Her given name, , is sometimes misread as 'Noriko', even in Japan. This may be due to the fact that ''Noriko'' is another way of pronouncing 法子, as seen in the name of Noriko Sakai, a famous Japanese actress.

Collaborations

Houko Kuwashima has starred in many anime produced by studio Sunrise (e.g. ''Infinite Ryvius'', ''Argento Soma'', ''Gundam SEED'' and ''SEED Destiny'', ''InuYasha'', among others), wherein her characters often have strong relationships with the those voiced by Sōichirō Hoshi (''Gundam SEED'', ''Argento Soma'', and ''Infinite Ryvius''). In both ''SEED'' and ''Destiny'', she voiced the respective main character's initial love interests (Fllay Allster and Stella Loussier). Notably, none of her characters in either of the two series survives their duration.
Kuwashima also famously worked alongside Kotono Mitsuishi on multiple occasions, whereby they voiced partners acting as foils to each other: in ''Gundam SEED'', with Mitsuishi as Murrue Ramius and Kuwashima as Natarle Badgiruel; in ''Noir'', with Kuwashima as Kirika Yuumura and Mitsuishi as Mireille Bouquet; and in ''Claymore'', with Kuwashima as Clare and Mitsuishi as Jean. The two of them have voiced the same character once, Satsuki Yatōji in different adaptations of ''X/1999'' (Mitsuishi in the film, Kuwashima in the TV series).
She also became good friends with fellow seiyū Haruna Ikezawa after their collaboration in ''Gravion''.
