The
unicameral 'House of Assembly' serves as '
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines'' legislative body.
The House has a total of 21 members. Fifteen are chosen directly through elections in single seat
constituencies using the simple majority (
First-past-the-post) system. The remaining six, known as Senators, are appointed by the
Governor-general - four representing the government and two from the opposition.
The most recent House of Assembly
elections were held on
7 December 2005. The incumbent
Unity Labour Party (ULP) was returned to office winning 12 out of 15 seats. The
New Democratic Party (NDP) won the remaining three seats.
