'''Hum Tum''' (Hindi:हम तुम, Urdu: ہم تم) is a Bollywood movie, released in India on May 28, 2004, directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra. The movie stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles.
''Hum Tum'' (translates as ''You and Me'' or literally as ''Me, You'') is loosely based on ''When Harry Met Sally...'' following the encounters of the two main characters until they, after several years and various meetings, become friends and finally fall in love at the end of the movie.
The comic characters ''Hum'' and ''Tum'' have their own animated sequences in the movie, where they represent the current state of Karan's and Rhea's relationship.
The film won several Filmfare Awards including Best Actress (Mukerji), Director (Kohli), Actor in a Comic Role (Khan), Female Playback Singer (Alka Yagnik for "Saanso Ko Saanso") and Scene of the Year. It lost Best Film to Yash Chopra's ''Veer-Zaara''. Animation for this film was done by Kathaa Animations and the Special Effects by Tata Elxsi[1]. Saif Ali Khan also won the National Film Award for Best Actor in June of 2005.

Synopsis

Karan (Saif Ali Khan) is a cartoonist and a self-styled ladies' man. His daily comic, "Hum Tum," explores the battle of the sexes. On a plane from Delhi to New York, he meets Rhea (Rani Mukerji), but she doesn't seem the least bit interested in him. His feeble attempts at flirting go nowhere, but when they have a stopover in Amsterdam, she agrees to spend a few hours exploring the city with him. Karan quickly learns he has little in common with the feisty but proper Rhea, but he won't give up. He ends their contentious time together with an unwelcome kiss. Rhea is outraged and storms off, but Karan insists they'll meet again. And months later in New York, he spots her in the park, and she causes a scene with his girlfriend, which ends in the break-up between Karan and his current girlfriend. Karan and Rhea don't see each other again

Now three years later, when Karan is helping his mother plan a wedding that turns out to be Rhea's. Rhea is marrying Sameer (Abhishek Bachchan).They bicker again, but this time, they part on good terms. Years later in Paris, Karan is visiting his father (Rishi Kapoor), when he runs into Rhea again. He learns from Rhea's mother (Kiron Kher) that Sameer has died in a car crash, and he sets out to help her reclaim her positive outlook on life. Sensing that she needs to be with a straight-laced, "boring guy", he conspires with Rhea's mother to fix her up with his shy best friend, Mihir (Jimmy Shergill). Things don't go as planned, and Karan and Rhea find themselves forced to confront their feelings for each other. They spend a night together (though in Indian releases, this scene was cut) and, suspecting they have ruined their relationship forever, Karan leaves Rhea, but later realizes his mistake and tries to find her, but she has disappeared.
He writes his book about ''Hum'' and ''Tum''; essentially, the story is his and Rhea's. She comes back to him after having read the book and finally, he confesses his love for her and they get married and have a baby girl.

The CD and audio cassette also feature an instrumental version of Hum Tum and a deleted song called "Yaara Yaara". This tune was reused in Kunal Kohli's next film, ''Fanaa'', in the songs Chand Sifarish and, more noticeably, Chanda Chamke. The latter has the same tune throughout the entire song.

★ Abhishek Bachchan has a cameo as Rani Mukerji's fiancé/husband.

★ Isha Koppikar made a special appearance in the film as "Saif Ali Khan's date" and then as Jimmy Shergill's wife. Her name in the film was Diana Fernandez.

★ Both Vivek Oberoi and Hrithik Roshan were approached for the role of Karan Kapoor before Saif Ali Khan.

★ Every scene that is supposed to be showing Paris is actually filmed in Amsterdam. Paris Airport scene was shot At Rotterdam Airport.

★ Paarzun Dastur, best known for his role as Silent Sardaji in ''Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'' and as Ashfaque's nephew in ''Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'', voices the comic character ''Hum''.

★ The song "Naughty Girl" by Beyonce plays in a club scene.

★ The scene before the song Gore Gore where Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan are arguing about marriage in the background of the scene the song Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna is playing from the movie ''Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge''

★ When Mihir is driving Rhea and her mother, the song playing in the car is from the movie "Muhjse Dosti Karoge!", which was also directed by Kunal Kholi and starred Rani Mukherji.

★ When Karan's father (Rishi Kapoor) first meets Rhea's mom and she says to call her "Bobby" and he says "Why don't i just call you Dimple?" Bobby was Rishi Kapoor's first movie in which he was the lead actor and his co-star was Dimple Kapadia.

★ When Rishi Kapoor sings "Main Shahir To Nahi", he is singing a song from his first movie when he was in the lead role "Bobby".
