IAAF WORLD ROAD RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 'IAAF World Road Running Championships' is a new world championship competition from the IAAF. There is one men's race and one women's race, both run over the distance of 20 kilometres. This replaces the World Half Marathon Championships in the international athletics calendar.
As the name suggests, this event is run on public roads which are closed to traffic for the duration of the races. The inaugural World Road Running Championships were held in Debrecen, Hungary on 8th October 2006, with the 2007 event being held in Udine and the 2008 competition in Rio de Janeiro.
This event should not to be confused with the IAAF World Women's Road Race Championships which were run from 1983 to 1991, or the IAAF World Road Relay Championships which took place between 1992 and 1998.
