IMPROVED LOAD BEARING EQUIPMENT

(Redirected from ILBE)

The 'Improved Load Bearing Equipment' or 'ILBE' is the United States Marine Corps' new backpack, designed to replace the existing ALICE and MOLLE packs currently in service. The ILBE is based upon the COTS Tango pack from Arc'teryx[1], and manufactured by Propper Inc. The backpack is made from Cordura 725denier fabric, with MARPAT camouflage pattern printed onto it.[2] It includes a main pack, a detachable assault pack (based on the Charlie pack from Arc'teryx) and a 100-ounce (3 liter) hydration system. The ILBE can hold up to 120 pounds and has room for 60mm and 81mm mortar rounds outside the main pack. Specialized bags for corpsmen and reconnaissance units are also available. The pack is being fielded to deployed units as fast it can be made available.
