INCHEON UNITED
Founded at the end of the 2003 season in the Korean port city of Incheon, 'Incheon United' made their K-League debut in 2004 under the leadership of German manager Werner Lorant. Midway through the season, Lorant quit and the side struggled to make an impact in the league.
The club improved under Lorant's replacement, Chang Woe-Ryong, and finished the 2005 season with the best combined record of the two-stage K-League season, earning a spot in the championship playoffs. They defeated Busan I'Park 2-0 in the semi-finals, and met Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i in the two-legged final. A 5-1 home defeat in the first leg all but killed their chances of lifting the title, and though they won the second leg 2-1 they lost out on the title 6-3 on aggregate, but finished their second season in existence as K-League runners-up.
