INSTITUTION OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS
The 'Institution of Electrical Engineers' or 'IEE' (pronounce: I-double-E or I-E-E) was a British professional organisation for electronics, electrical, manufacturing and IT professionals. In 2006 it merged with the IIE to form the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). The IEE was founded in 1871 and before the merger was the largest professional engineering society in Europe with a worldwide membership of around 120,000.

Discussions started in 2004 between the IEE and the IIE about the formation of a new institution, the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Following members voting in favour of the merger, the IET became operational on 31 March 2006.
