INTERSIL

'Intersil Corporation' produces integrated circuits and semiconductors. It is a spinoff of Harris Corporation, with headquarters in Milpitas, California, a fabrication plant at former Harris facilities in Palm Bay, Florida, and design offices in four U.S. states, plus the United Kingdom.
A creation of Intersil (as Harris Semiconductor) is the 'PRISM' ® line of Wi-Fi hardware: that group of products was sold to GlobespanVirata in 2003, and is now currently maintained by Conexant.
Since divesting itself of the wireless product lines, Intersil has developed into a leading analog semiconductor manufacturer with five specialized product groups: Consumer Power, Consumer Electronics, Analog Mixed Signal, Industrial Communications and Automotive & Military/Space Specialties.
Intersil is the present manufacturer of the venerable RCA (CDP)1802 microprocessor (aka RCA COSMAC), a CPU traditionally much used in space applications.
The original Intersil was founded in 1967. It was noted for analog CMOS chips, single chip DMM's, a single chip PDP-8 CPU used in the DECmate series of computers, and a CMOS version of the 8048. After being acquired by General Electric Corp in 1981, it was sold to Harris Corporation in 1988, at which point the name was retired.
The Intersil name was revived for the new spinoff venture in 1999. Today, Intersil is continuing to grow into a major player in the analog semiconductor world. The company announced record growth in Q2 of 2006, posting quarterly highs in revenue, net income and earnings per share.
