The '''Journal of the American Chemical Society''' (usually abbreviated as ''J. Am. Chem. Soc.'', or ''JACS''), is a peer-reviewed scientific journal, published since 1879 by the American Chemical Society. The journal has absorbed two other publications in its history, the ''Journal of Analytical and Applied Chemistry'' in July 1893, and the ''American Chemical Journal'' in January 1914. A weekly publication, it publishes original research papers in all fields of chemistry. According to Institute for Scientific Information statistics, ''JACS'' is the journal with the most citations in this field.Journal Citation Reports, 2006 The impact factor of the journal is 7.42 (2005). The current Editor of the journal is Dr. Peter J. Stang of the University of Utah. He has been the Editor since 2002.
