'Barbara Jane Horrocks', known as 'Jane Horrocks', (born January 18, 1964) is an English actress.

Biography


Horrocks was born in Rawtenstall, Lancashire, England; to John Horrocks (a sales representative) and Barbara Ashworth (a secretary). Her grandmother Doris Ashworth was a factory girl. She went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. She lives with the UK writer Nick Vivian and they have a son, Dylan, and a daughter, Molly.
While working on ''Road'', a play directed by Jim Cartwright, she used to warm up by doing singing impressions of Judy Garland, Dame Shirley Bassey and Ethel Merman, amongst others. Cartwright was so impressed with her that he wrote the play and the movie ''Little Voice'' just to show off her talent.
Jane has also dipped her toes into the musical field, duetting with Robbie Williams on his album Swing When You're Winning.

Her first television role was as Louise in Jim Cartwright's play ''Road'' in 1987.

In the 1990s Horrocks starred alongside Prunella Scales in a series of high profile adverts for Tesco.
Horrocks can frequently be spotted in the audience of hit show ''Strictly Come Dancing'' of which she is a fan.
