JEFF BURLINGAME
Born in Aberdeen, Washington, 'Jeff Burlingame' is an American author of several books, including the best-selling "Kurt Cobain: Oh Well, Whatever, Nevermind", which won recognition from the New York Public Library as a Book for the Teen Age in 2007. Early in his career, Burlingame was the longtime arts and entertainment editor for The Daily World newspaper in Aberdeen, Wash., where he won nearly a dozen Society of Professional Journalism awards for his writing.
In 2004, Burlingame, along with Aberdeen City Councilman Paul Fritts, founded the non-profit Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee, an organization formed to honor the late rock legend in his hometown. In 2005, the group installed a large sign reading "Welcome to Aberdeen: Come As You Are" at the east entrance to Aberdeen. The committee's future goals include a youth center and low-key memorial park. In September 2007, the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee hosted its first-ever fundraising rock concert, Lounge Acts.
Burlingame's recent book, a young adult biography of former first lady, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, has been made available for pre-order on Amazon.com's Web site here as of August 2007.
