A Hawk and a Hacksaw

Barnes has recorded somewhat experimental projects under the A Hawk and a Hacksaw name. His first album, a self-titled affair, kept a folksy tone to it, having been recorded in France with a group of Elephant Six bandmates including members of Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, and The Olivia Tremor Control. His second album, ''Darkness at Noon'', is less experimental in tone, relying on accordion, violin, oud, trumpet, tuba, piano. The album ends with the song "Portlandtown," by Derroll Adams, folk troubadour of the 50's.
