2006
During the 2006 season he served as a starting pitcher for the Buffalo Bisons.
He was called up to the Major Leagues to work out of the bullpen on two different occasions. He has worn #57 for both the Indians and the Bisons.
2007
On January 19, 2007, Guthrie was designated for assignment and was picked up by the Baltimore Orioles.
During the 2007 season, he has become one of the best and most consistent pitchers in the American League, ranking 2nd in ERA and allowing more than 2 earned runs in just 1 out of 10 starts. He is also 1st in the AL in WHIP (Walks and Hits per Innings Pitched). [2].
After being called up to fill a spot in the Baltimore Orioles' bullpen and then moving into the starting rotation, Guthrie has enjoyed a breakout year in 2007. Through the end of July 2007, Guthrie has a 7-3 record in 17 starts to go with a sparkling 2.89 ERA and a 1.027 WHIP (second only to 2-time Cy Young award winner Johan Santana), albeit in only 124.7 innings of work. Guthrie's rise to unexpected success in the first half of the season has led to consideration for the American League's Rookie of the Year Award.
