JOEY MARQUEZ
'Joey Marquez' (''Joey'', ''Tsong''), born on October 07, 1960 (native of Mabalacat, Pampanga), is a
comedian, father, politician and perfect gentleman. He was mayor of Paranaque City, Philippines from 1995 to 2004, and ran but lost the congressional race in May of 2004.
(Mimilanie) Melanie Marquez, his sister, is one of the many children of Artemio Marquez outside of his marriage to Joey Marquez's mother. Joey married Alma Moreno (their 12-year union produced 3 children: Yeoj, Win-win, VJ, and adopted Em-Em; the marriage was annulled in 2004). Marquez has Zia Marquez as 2nd daughter with former actress and producer Brenda del Rio, with her older sister Joey-Ann (was in the cast of "Ang TV 2" and her famous aunt is former Miss International Melanie Marquez). Kris Aquino was involved with Marquez, who she later parted ways with in a sad ending, accusing Marquez of having pointed a gun at her face, and also transmitted to her venereal disease.[1]
Joey was one of the 1986 cast of 7 in Palibhasa Lalake, the longest running sitcom on Philippine Television (spanning 12 successful years), with Richard Gomez, Gloria Romero, Cynthia Patag, Amy Perez, Carmina Villaroel and Apa Ongpin. Marquez was included in the S-Files roster of hosts after he successfully pinch-hitted for Paolo Bediones when Paolo went to the US to interview some famous Hollywood celebrities to be featured on the show.
On august 30, 2007, Marquez was convicted of graft and corruption (6-10 years imprisonment) by the Philippine Sandiganbayan 4th Division (headed by Associate Justice Gregory S. Ong and posted bail. The other convicts are Silvestre de Leon, city treasurer; Flocerida Babida, budget officer; and Ofelia Cuanan, general services chief. Marquez filed a motion for reconsideration. The Commission on Audit accused Marquez of overpricing the broomsticks (purchased from January 1996 to September 1997, by P462,708 and did not go through the regular bidding procedures).[2] Marquez further filed a 14-page demurrer to evidence on 8 other cases of graft pending in the other 2nd division of the Sandiganbayan (involving more than 8,000 broomsticks worth over P120,000 allegedly procured without public bidding on March 1997).[3]
