JOHN REILLY (SOAP OPERA ACTOR)

''For the notable actor of the same name, see John C. Reilly''
'John Reilly' (born November 11, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American actor.
Mr. Reilly replaced John Colenback as Dr. Dan Stewart on ''As the World Turns'' in January 1974 and quickly became a fan favorite. He greatly resembled the Mr. Colenback. After a two-year run, he left the soap opera in January 1976 to explore other opportunities.
A famous role was police officer Sean Donely on ''General Hospital'' from June 1984 until November 1994 when he opted not to renew his contract because of a pay-out from then-executive producer Wendy Riche.
He returned to serials: this time as Del Douglas on ''Sunset Beach'' for a short-term guest role during the show's first 6 episodes, and then later returned twice in 1998 and once in 1999 in a one-episode guest role as a part of a fantasy sequence.
He also played in Mortal Kombat Conquest the role of Baron Reyland in the first two episodes.
After a long hiatus, Reilly returned to the serials as Alistair Crane on the popular NBC soap ''Passions'' from January 21, 2005 onward. He took over the role from David Bailey after Bailey died in a pool accident in November 2004. In July 2006, Reilly was dropped from the show as a result of budget cuts. The character has not been seen since that July when the train he was on with his daughter and grandson exploded. In August 2007, John returned to the role of Alistair Crane as a recurring character and is expected to stay with the show when it moves to a new network.
