'John William Wood, Sr.' born December 28, 1855, died October 31, 1928.
John William Wood, Sr., one of the founders of Benson, North Carolina rode to Benson early each morning on a mule and wagon from his home place near Meadows, North Carolina (a 2 1/2 hour trip by car).
He owned and donated the land on which Meadow School was built at Peacock's Crossroads.
John William Wood, Sr., was elected to a term in the House of Representatives in 1927 after having served on the Board of Education and County Commissioners for years and being known as the "watchdog" of the Treasury.
