JOSEPH LEONARD BURLEY

'Joseph Leonard Burley' (born 1878, died May 24, 1966) was the founder of the Burley Football Company, which later became part of the Burley-Sekem group.
He married Rose Ellen Walsh (deceased). They had three children: Dorothy (born 1900), Grace (born 1906) and John (born 1916) all deceased. Burley is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth, Western Australia.
He is a brother of Frederick R Burley, founder of Berlei Bras

Joseph was very much involved in the development and promotion of the Australian Rules Football game in Western Australia. Amongst many philanthropic activities he sponsored a tour of Tasmania by the East Perth Football Club in the 1930's.
His collection of early football photographs are housed in the J S Battye Library in Western Australia.
