(Redirected from Kamayo)
'Kamayo' is a minor language spoken in the area of
Bislig City, in the Southern
Philippines. It has 7,565 speakers (2000, WCD). An interesting word in Kamayo is "inday", which means literally "I don't know". This is interesting because, in
Cebuano the same word is a generic term for a female, roughly like "gal" in
English. In Standard Cebuano, the translation of the phrase "I don't know" is "Ambot".
Kamayo is also spoken in
Lingig,
Surigao del Sur; and in
Cateel,
Davao Oriental. It is related to
Surigaonon and
Butuanon.
