'Kar Sevaks' refers to those who offer services for free (that is, a volunteer) to a religious cause, particularly to Hindutva..
It originates from the Sanskrit words ''kar (hand)'' and ''sevak (helper)''. It has been used to refer to people who often pay visit to the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya,UP. After ''Operation Blue Star'', Kar Sevaks helped in rebuilding the Harmandir Sahib, the holiest Sikh shrine.
More contreversially, the term has been associated with Hindu nationalism in India, especially after some kar sevaks were involved in sectarian riots.
