The 'Kawasaki Z750RS Z2' was introduced in
1973 as a smaller displacement "brother model" to their already successful
Z1 for the Japanese market.
Visually the Z2 is very similar to the Z1 with the only difference being the smaller engine. The new 746 cc
DOHC engine was built with newly designed pistons and crankshaft parts to give it a feel similar to the Z1's 900 cc engine. At that time, both engines from the Z1 an Z2 were the only DOHC engines available in a Japanese built motorcycle. The engine had a maximum output of 69ps at 9,000 rpm and could propel the Z2 to a maximum speed of 190 km/h.
Production of the Z2 began in March 1973 and the bike recorded sales that were 10% higher than its nearest 750 cc competitor.
While not as desirable as its big brother, the Z2 is still highly sought after by enthusiasts.
The bike was featured heavily in the anime and manga series
Great Teacher Onizuka.
