KIEV UKRAINE TEMPLE

Announced in 1998, the 'Kiev Ukraine Temple' of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is under construction. Located in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, It will be the 11th LDS temple in Europe and the first located in the former Soviet Union. The expected completion date is late 2009.[1]
The plans to build a temple in Ukraine were announced by the LDS Church on 20 July 1998.[2] However, the project was delayed for nine years as the church encountered difficulty in obtaining the three to four hectares of land it wanted for the project.[3] On 23 June 2007 ground was broken for the construction project by Paul B. Pieper, first counselor in the Europe Central Area of the church.[4]
