KLEIN, TEXAS
'Klein' is an unincorporated community in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Houston within north Harris County, Texas, bordering on Houston to the South and Tomball to the North. It is named after Adam Klein, a German immigrant whose best-known great-great-grandson is singer Lyle Lovett. Other famous sons and daughters of the Klein community include actress Sherry Stringfield, singer/songwriter Derek Webb, songwriter Aaron Tate, and Olympic gold-medalists Laura Wilkinson and Chad Hedrick.
Klein is served by David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport, one of just a few privately owned airports in the U.S. to have a Federal Aviation Administration control tower, and home to Civil Air Patrol's Delta Composite Squadron.
Klein overlaps land area that is better known as Spring, TX, another unincorporated community.

Location
Since Klein lacks something of a central government, there are no real set boundaries. However, since most of the Klein Independent School District and the Klein Volunteer Fire Department are located in a single zip-code (77379), the zip-code boundaries can generally be used to set certain unofficial boundaries, except in the west where a tiny sliver of zip-code 77375 is part of Klein. These boundaries are Boudreaux Rd to the north, Kuykendahl Rd to the east, Texas State Highway 249 to the west, and Cypress Creek to the south.
Fire service
The Klein Volunteer Fire Department serves areas considered to be Klein. KVFD consists of 7 stations, they provide fire protection for the area. A paid crew provides services Monday thru Friday during regular business hours with a substational pool of volunteers providing response services after regular business hours.
Emergency Medical Services
EMS is provided by Cypress Creek EMS, a highly respected and advanced provider of emergency medical services. It is staffed by both volunteer and salaried medic units.
Education
The Klein community is primarily served by the Klein Independent School District, established by the Texas Legislature in 1977.
Significant portions of the affluent 'Champions Area, which is also considered part of Klein, are zoned to the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, the 3rd largest school district in Texas.
Demographics
According to the 2000 Census, 45,986 people live in the zip code (77379) that enccompasses Klein. The racial makeup of the town was 85.9 percent White, 4.2 percent Black, 0.6 percent Native American, 5.8 percent Asian, 0.1 percent Pacific Islander, 3.8 percent from other races. Persons of Hispanic origin, regardless of race, accounted for 8.9 percent of the population. About 2.6% of families live below the poverty line
The area has experienced significant growth and continues to develop in a northward direction towards Spring Creek.

In recent years, development ranging from large million dollar homes to apartment complexes have served to diversify Klein's traditionally middle/upper middle class economy. There is increasing concern from residents over the area's rapid development. Deforestation is a major concern for Klein residents who are urging developers to respect and preserve the natural character of the area that has proved such a draw over the past 30 years.

Klein is home to many planned communities, including Champion Forest, Memorial Northwest, Spring Creek Forest, Colony Creek, Wind Rose, Wimbledon, Vintage Lakes, Gleannloch Farms, Northampton, Cypresswood, Spring Creek Oaks, Terra Nova among many others.
Sister Communities
The entire Northwest Harris County area encompassing Cypress, Klein, Tomball and Spring was settled by German farmers in the early 1800s. The area was known as "Big Cypress".
